TOPOPHILIA
Topophilia is a series of 58 pieces (collages on paper 50/44 cm) created in spring 2020 on the theme of «felicitous space « (l’espace heureux). The term was borrowed from the French philosopher Gaston Bachelard (1884-1962) found in his wonderful book “The Poetics of Space“.
58 pictures from several family photo albums form the basis of the illustration work. These albums are those of Irène and Pierre, those of their parents and their children. The photos were taken at the end of the 19th until the middle of the 20th century.
The caracters captured and the space surrounding them cannot be dissociated, detached or separated from each other. The space here is linked to intimate moments, shared moments or moments of solitude. It has been lived in, far, very far from the Euclidean space, from that of the geometer: measured, reflected!
These 60 « pages « are a certain way of seeing space, space lived in the moment, here and now! They are also a tribute to Gaston Bachelard, to Irène and Pierre.

Topophilia (From Greek topos "place" and -philia, "love of") is a strong sense of place, which often becomes mixed with the sense of cultural identity among certain people and a love of certain aspects of such a place.

...good night madam...
you are so wonderful
close your eyes
listen to the noise
hyde park birds
little owls and common blackbirds...
...foggy night
I'm so sorry madam
I'm so sorry
you are so wonderful
this door won't close properly
i mean, forgive me,I'm a little bit confused...
...please close your eyes now
it's nothing, nothing, go, sleep now
little owl?
...she's sleeping now sir, don't wake her up
she's fine
she's wonderful
she's so wonderful
...good night madam...
